Description
Nero (Black) rice, also known as Forbidden Rice is native to China, where until the nineteenth century it was only grown for the Emperor and his court. It is a dark purple, almost black whole grain with a mild nutty taste and an aroma of freshly baked bread. The dark colour is due to an excess of anthocyanin, a powerful antioxidant found in most dark coloured plants, Black rice is an excellent source of iron, vitamin E and has more antioxidants than blueberries.
